Summary
A general contractor from Punta Gorda, Florida had been confined to his chair for six to eight months due to severe lower back pain, unable to work or help his son on the job site. After spinal fractures led to a kyphoplasty cement procedure at another facility. Which provided no relief; Dr. Deukmedjian identified the true sources of his pain: two damaged discs and facet joint pain. In a single outpatient visit, he underwent the Deuk Laser Disc Repair® for the disc problem and the Deuk Plasma Rhizotomy® to permanently destroy the facet joint pain nerves. The following day he reported no pain, had taken no pain medication, and was already planning to refer his cousin for treatment and is ready to get back to work and life.

Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Good morning. Dr. Deukmedjian… July 17th, 2024. I’m here with one of my Floridian patients from Punta Gorda. He just had his lower back fixed with two procedures. The Deuk Laser Disc Repair® for some bad discs, and the Deuk Plasma Rhizotomy® for facet joint pain. Which we discovered when he showed up here and I examined him and found his facet joints were hurting him. He just had his surgery yesterday. You can see in the video we went in and cleaned out two discs and got the pressure off the nerves. We also did the Deuk Plasma Rhizotomy® on his facet joints and destroyed the pain nerves. How do you feel today?
Patient: I feel good. Yeah. I don’t have any pain.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: So the surgery helped?
Patient: Oh yes. Surgery definitely helped. Yeah.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: What was life like for you before the surgery? Why did you decide to have it?
Patient: I couldn’t do anything. I couldn’t walk. I’m a general contractor and I try to help my son out, but the last, oh jeez, I’d say six to eight months I’ve been in my chair, and that’s it. Watching TV. And that’s about it.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Because of the pain in the back?
Patient: Because of the pain. Yeah.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: And you’ve had a rough time because you had some fractures in your spine which had kyphoplasty cement put in. Which looked good and then the discs were the problem as well as your facet joints. And we were able to fix those yesterday.
Patient: Yes. I went to a different doctor over in Fort Myers who did the cement job. I thought that’s all I needed because that’s what one doctor said “oh yeah, you just got these four fractures, we’ll fix that, you’ll be fine”. Well, it didn’t do anything when he fixed that.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Well, and now you notice a difference?
Patient: Yes. Definitely.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: And you’re not on any new pain medication that we gave you?
Patient: I haven’t taken any pain medicine.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: No pain medicine. And you’re still feeling like the pain is gone?
Patient: Yeah. I believe it worked.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Well, anything you want to say to your friends or family out there?
Patient: I would definitely recommend Dr. Deuk for someone who has a back problem. Certainly this disc laser surgery. He’s the only one that does it. Seems to be the best way to do it. Like I say, I would recommend it. As a matter of fact, I have a cousin that has been having problems for quite a while, and when he gets back down here to Florida, I’m going to have him call Dr. Deuk to see if he can set something up.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Yeah. We’ll take care of him. Don’t worry. What’s his name?
Patient: Kent. Kent Leuk.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: We’ll look for Kent Leuk. All right, sir. Well, enjoy life. Get those muscles back in shape. If you need anything, you call me.
Patient: Thank you very much.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: You’re welcome. Thank you. You’re welcome. Thank you.
Deuk Laser Disc Repair® & Deuk Plasma Rhizotomy® At Deuk Spine Institute
This patient underwent two procedures in a single visit at Deuk Spine Institute: the Deuk Laser Disc Repair® to clean out two damaged lumbar discs and decompress the affected nerves, and the Deuk Plasma Rhizotomy® to permanently destroy the pain nerves supplying his damaged facet joints. Both identified as sources of pain through Dr. Deukmedjian’s thorough physical examination upon arrival. A prior kyphoplasty procedure at another facility had addressed spinal fractures but left the disc and facet pain entirely untreated. Underscoring Deuk Spine Institute’s commitment to finding and fixing every true source of a patient’s back pain rather than treating only what’s visible on imaging. Both procedures were performed as outpatient treatments with no hospitalization and no narcotic pain medication, with complete pain relief achieved by the following morning. Patients who have had prior spine procedures that didn’t resolve their pain are encouraged to submit their MRI for a complimentary MRI review and physical examination consultation with Dr. Deukmedjian at Deuk Spine Institute.
