Summary
A patient from Hawaii had been suffering for three years with both lumbar disc pain and a massive cervical disc herniation so severe it was compressing her spinal cord and causing progressive paralysis, loss of hand feeling, and loss of balance. After extensive research and a virtual Zoom consultation with Dr. Deukmedjian, she flew from Hawaii to Florida for two separate procedures: the Deuk Laser Disc Repair® for her two painful lower back discs, followed two days later by a posterior cervical laminectomy and fusion to decompress her spinal cord, correct her neck deformity, and stabilize her spine with screws and rods. All performed on an outpatient basis with no hospital stay. Within three days she was up and walking, sensation had returned to her hands, her balance was restored, and approximately one week after her cervical surgery she described feeling completely back to herself for the first time in three years.

Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Hey, good morning. I’m Dr. Deukmedjian, and I’m sitting here with my patient who underwent two surgeries. She came from Hawaii all the way to Florida because she believed in what Deuk Spine Institute is doing to help people with back and neck pain. She underwent the Deuk Laser Disc Repair® our version of laser spine surgery for her lower back. She had two discs that were painful. Do you still have that back pain?
Patient: Not at all. Not at all.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Gone. Are you happy about that?
Patient: I’m so happy.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: After her back was fixed, two days later she had a posterior cervical laminectomy and fusion because she had a huge herniation in her neck. The herniated discs that were pinching her spinal cord, making her go paralyzed. She had the posterior cervical laminectomy and fusion. We took out the lamina, opened the foraminotomy, put in screws and rods, corrected her neck deformity, and stabilized her spine. She went home the same day. And here she is today, about a week later. How do you feel?
Patient: I feel amazing. I didn’t think anybody could heal within a week of this type of surgery. It’s beyond what I was expecting.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: And did you stay in the hospital?
Patient: No.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: That’s right. We did it outpatient. She went home
Patient: Went home.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Two hours after her surgery.
Patient: And I took the day off, and within three days I was up, walking around. My hands; I have feeling in my hands again. I’m walking. I have more balance. 100% back to me after three years of not being able to do anything.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Why did you choose to come to Deuk Spine Institute?
Patient: I did a lot of due diligence. I researched this because I didn’t know what to do. I just did as much investigating as I could, and I wanted the non-invasive laser repair 95% success rate. You’ve met all my expectations and beyond. I’ve been treated like family. Everybody here cares about me. I feel very comfortable with my decision.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Now, we met for the first time on a virtual consultation. We did a Zoom call. How did the Zoom call go for you?
Patient: Excellent. We established introducing each other, and you went through my MRIs pointing everything out. What you thought I needed to get done, how you approached it, and explained everything to me so that I knew exactly what to expect.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: What do you want to say to your fans out there?
Patient: Anybody going through any kind of spinal challenges. I couldn’t believe how easy this went. It was smooth. It was right up to expectations. What to do, how to do it. I’m going to recommend this to everyone I know that has anything wrong with their back.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Well, listen you enjoy the rest of your life, and maybe I’ll see you if I visit you on the Big Island.
Patient: Thank you.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: You take care. Safe travels.
The Deuk Spine Difference Deuk Laser Disc Repair® & Cervical Fusion
This patient underwent two procedures at Deuk Spine Institute: first, the Deuk Laser Disc Repair® for two painful lumbar discs, followed two days later by a posterior cervical laminectomy and fusion to address a massive cervical disc herniation that was compressing her spinal cord and causing progressive paralysis, hand numbness, and loss of balance. The cervical procedure involved lamina removal, foraminotomy, placement of screws and rods, deformity correction, and spinal stabilization. All performed as an outpatient surgery with no hospital stay required, and the patient was home within two hours of the procedure. Within three days she was walking, sensation had fully returned to her hands, and her balance was restored. Both procedures were planned during a virtual Zoom consultation in which Dr. Deukmedjian reviewed her MRIs in detail and outlined the full treatment approach. Patients with complex cervical or lumbar conditions are encouraged to begin with a complimentary MRI review and virtual consultation with Dr. Deukmedjian at Deuk Spine Institute.
