Summary
A patient came to Deuk Spine Institute with chronic sacroiliac joint pain that had made it nearly impossible to navigate stairs, sleep comfortably in any position, or find relief despite purchasing a specialized medical bed. She had been dismissed by other providers and told her pain was in her head. Dr. Deukmedjian diagnosed her SI joint condition through physical examination and treated her with the Deuk Plasma Rhizotomy® (DPR). Following the procedure, her pain was completely gone — she slept through the night, was able to sleep on her side for the first time in a long time, and successfully made it down her stairs pain-free the very next day.

Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: I’m Dr. Deukmedjian. I’m here with a patient who had sacroiliac joint pain. Sacroiliac joint pain is one of the most common causes of chronic lower back pain. The way you diagnose it is either through a physical examination or through an injection where you inject medicine into the joint and see if it takes the patient’s pain away. Usually we do an arthrogram when we do that — where we put some dye into the joint and you can see it on X-ray to make sure you’re there. When she came to me, I knew she had sacroiliac joint pain just based on the location. We did a Deuk Plasma Rhizotomy® for her, which I believe is the best treatment available in the world. How do you feel after your Deuk Plasma Rhizotomy®?
Patient: I feel great.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Is that pain still there?
Patient: It’s not. It’s gone.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Gone. You look happy.
Patient: I am. I was able to go down my stairs.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: What was life like for you before you had your sacroiliac joint problem fixed at Deuk Spine Institute?
Patient: It was pretty tough. Like I said, I had a hard time getting down my stairs. I really couldn’t sleep. I had to buy myself a medical bed just to try and get my back in order, and that still didn’t help. So it was uncomfortable laying in bed in certain positions.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Did you sleep good last night?
Patient: I did.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: That’s awesome.
Patient: I did, and I was able to sleep on my side for the first time in a long time.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: How would you say your experience has been at Deuk Spine Institute with your SI joint?
Patient: I always think that my experience here is great. I comment to a lot of my friends and family how the staff here is so caring. They never judge you. They never tell you that you’re wrong or that you’re making it up. They always want to help. There’s always concern. I just can’t recommend it enough. I’ve been told so many times that it was in my head or just something else. But you come here, you’re treated like royalty and they fix you.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: God bless you.
Patient: Yes, you too.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Enjoy your life. I hope I don’t see you anymore.
Patient: I know.
