SI Joint Pain Gone with Deuk Plasma Rhizotomy
Summary
A patient from West Virginia traveled to Deuk Spine Institute after 17 years of chronic sacroiliac (SI) joint pain. Having previously undergone bilateral SI joint fusion surgeries — an invasive procedure requiring overnight hospital stays and metal hardware implants — she found no lasting relief. Dr. Ara Deukmedjian recommended a minimally invasive alternative called Deuk Plasma Rhizotomy®, which targets and eliminates the pain nerves surrounding the SI joint. Just one day after the procedure, the patient reported being completely pain-free, without the need for painkillers or anesthesia, and left Deuk Spine Institute ready to fly home to West Virginia the next morning.

Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: I'm Dr. Ara Deukmedjian, CEO and founder of the Deuk Joint Institute and Deuk Spine Institute. I have a patient here with me who traveled from West Virginia. She's been suffering with pain for 17 years. She had a sacroiliac joint fusion done. You can see in the x-ray here that the surgeon where she had surgery had done it on both sides and she had to spend the night in the hospital and she had basically three metal posts that they drilled right through her SI joint. We're seeing a lot of SI joint fusions. They don't work very well at all and they're very dangerous and invasive.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: How long were you in the hospital for?
Patient: Overnight on each one.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Did the SI joint fusion fix your sacroiliac joint pain?
Patient: No, it didn't last at all.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: We felt she would benefit from a less invasive procedure called Deuk Plasma Rhizotomy for the sacroiliac joint where we basically go in and destroy the pain nerves to the joint and there are five of them on each side and we did both sides for her. So you had the Deuk Plasma Rhizotomy done yesterday. How do you feel today?
Patient: I feel great.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Yeah? You happy you came here?
Patient: I feel very happy.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: You still have the SI joint pain?
Patient: No.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Gone?
Patient: It's gone.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Are you on drugs? Did we put you on drugs?
Patient: I think you gave me something but I haven't taken anything.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Muscle relaxer.
Patient: Oh, you're not taking powerful painkillers, that's why the pain's gone.
Patient: No, no. It's natural. I haven't taken anything.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Yeah, and that's what people want to know because when they see the pain is gone some people think, oh, you're having still an anesthesia effect but the anesthesia wears off after a few hours. So you're not under any anesthesia, are you?
Patient: I'm not under anything.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: No drugs, no anesthesia, so this is real legitimate pain relief that you can feel in your back.
Patient: Yes.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Are you happy you came here?
Patient: I'm very happy.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: All right. Is there anything you want to tell the people out there about your story?
Patient: If you want your life back, come see Dr. Deuk.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Well, safe travels. When do you head back to West Virginia?
Patient: Tomorrow morning.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Are you driving or flying?
Patient: Flying.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: All right. Have a safe trip.
Patient: Okay.
