Patient Finds Relief with Deuk Piriformis Release
Summary
A patient suffering from piriformis syndrome came to Deuk Spine and Joint Institute with debilitating buttock and sciatic pain. After being told at another facility he would need hardware like screws and bolts, he chose Dr. Ara Deukmedjian's minimally invasive Deuk Piriformis Muscle Release® — a procedure performed through a 3mm incision on an outpatient basis. The patient also had herniated discs addressed and underwent a Deuk Plasma Rhizotomy® during the same visit. Just one day after surgery, he reported sleeping well without any pain medication, no lingering sciatic symptoms, and only mild tenderness at the incision site. He enthusiastically praised Deuk Spine Institute, calling the experience easy and highly recommending it to others.

Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: And good morning, I'm Dr. Ara Deukmedjian with the Deuk Spine and Joint Institute. I have a patient who had piriformis syndrome. He was struggling with pain in his buttock. Yesterday he had the new Deuk Piriformis Release. It's minimally invasive, done with a three millimeter incision, outpatient. How do you feel today?
Patient: Shoot, I feel good. All I have is a little site tenderness, no sciatic stuff or any of that, whatever that was, none of that. Slept good, didn't take anything.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: So, no pain medications?
Patient: No.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Yeah, the surgery is so minimally invasive that you don't need pain medication afterwards. Now, you mentioned that you had sciatic pain. It turns out that piriformis syndrome is the second most common cause of sciatic pain. A lot of people don't know that and they go and get spine surgery done because they have sciatic pain only, but it's coming from the muscle in the buttock. You're happy with the results?
Patient: Yes, much.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Do we have to go to the hospital?
Patient: You know, that's the good thing. We came down here, you get checked out, the next day you come in, they do the surgery. It takes, you're not here, but two or three hours at the most. They wake you up, you don't even know you've been out. Tell you to go to the motel, you go to the motel, you sleep, come back the next morning, they check you out, you go home. That's simple enough. And the pain is gone? Yes.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Congratulations.
Patient: Thank you. Anything else you want to say to your fans out there? I really think whenever this started, I went to another place and they said I was going to have screws and bolts and all this stuff. We came down here. I also had herniated discs too. They fixed that. He fixed the piriformis. I had some rhizotomy. It was a pretty big deal, you know, several things. And we've had no pain, no problems. Easy, really easy to get along with. I'd recommend it to anybody.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: And you can see in the video here where we actually made a small cut and we went in with our probe and we just basically cut the muscle right off the top of the hip and that releases the muscle. And that's why you're feeling so good. It's a permanent fix. That's what we want. Congratulations. Happy holidays.
Patient: You too. Merry Christmas.
Dr. Ara Deukmedjian: Thanks for trusting us.
Patient: My pleasure.
