Spinal Surgery Fellowship

Deuk Spine Institute is a state-of-the-art multi specialty medical practice devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of spine related disorders with an emphasis on common degenerative conditions including disc and facet disease. The Spine Surgery Fellowship is 1-year of training beginning on July 1 at the Deuk Spine Institute in Florida. Dr. Ara Deukmedjian, Spine Fellowship Director, is a board certified neuro-spine surgeon and associate professor of neurosurgery, with expertise in treatment of degenerative spine disease.

Goals

The Fellow will care for surgical patients with spine conditions including symptomatic degenerative disc disease, facet disease, fractures, and spinal stenosis in a private practice setting. Exposure to all aspects of spine care is anticipated including clinic evaluation, interventional pain management and surgical treatment of the patient. The Fellow will have the opportunity to learn how to utilize integrated management strategies to care for patients with symptomatic spinal disease. The focus of the Fellowship is complex and minimally invasive spine surgery.

The majority of our patients present with degenerative spinal conditions and multi modality treatment including therapy, pain management and surgery are utilized to provide optimal results. Deuk Spine Institute processes over 1,500 patient encounters every month and averages over 50 complex spinal surgeries each month. On staff physicians include neurology, physiatry, neurosurgery, orthopedics, interventional pain management and chiropractic.

Applications will be accepted from BC/BE neurosurgeons and/or orthopedic surgeons, who have participated in an ACGME accredited residency program. To process the application we will need a current CV, 3 letters of recommendation and a copy of your current medical license. Fellows must obtain a valid Florida medical license, DEA number and will be required to meet staff privilege requirements at participating hospitals.

Interventional Pain Management Fellowship

Providing chronic back pain treatment and spine care procedures – including therapy, interventional pain management and surgery – Deuk Spine Institute’s multi-specialty practice concentrates on the treatment of neck and back injuries and spine conditions. Deuk Spine Institute employs a comprehensive care approach and a world class team in providing for all our patients’ back and neck care needs, without having to go from specialist to specialist.

Goals

The Interventional Pain Management Fellow will be a BC/BE physiatrist to be educated and trained in advanced interventional techniques in the practice of musculoskeletal disorders pertaining to the spine. The Fellow will work alongside a quadruple board certified interventional pain management specialist and experience first-hand advanced principles of diagnoses and pain management, including treatments and modalities available in the management of spine-related disorders. The Fellow should anticipate sharing a patient load presently at 60+ procedures per week and more than 600 patient encounters per month. There will also be an opportunity to learn the intricacies of EMGs and nerve conduction studies.

The fellowship is non-ACGME accredited. The successful candidate is required to have a full, unrestricted Florida state Medical License, DEA number and will be required to meet staff privilege requirements at participating hospitals. To process the application we will need a current CV, 3 letters of recommendation and a copy of your current medical license. Attractive terms are available for the fellowship.

Research opportunities are abundant and emphasis is on preservation of motion in the spine. The Fellow will have the opportunity to participate in multiple practice settings with a comprehensive, fulfilling education.
